Mentorship
Mentorship has been consistently identified as a factor in career
success. In this program the mentor would typically be the student's
employer. It needs to be someone with substantial knowledge in the
student's area of study, and with the time and interest to advise
and guide the student towards the successful completion of the program.
The mentor plays an active role in helping the student plan a course
of study, evaluating educational opportunities, and providing that
important personal contact which is usually missing in self-guided
studies.
Upon registration in the program the student must register the
mentor with Gaia College. The mentor must be acceptable to Gaia
College, and the college may at its sole discretion refuse to register
a mentor, or deregister a mentor who was previously approved. A
student may change mentors.
The mentor is a volunteer advisor to the student and is not remunerated
by Gaia College. The student and the mentor may wish to agree on
a mutually satisfactory arrangement to compensate the mentor for
his or her time and effort.
